General Information

What makes HTLC Unique?

We are a conference run by students for the students.
  • We look for students who are intensely passionate and curious about learning and becoming good stewards of their communities. We deemphasize the merits of grades and scores and instead focus on who you are as a person.
  • We seek to bring together a diverse group of students from various backgrounds. We especially encourage you to apply if you are from an underprivileged and/or disadvantaged background.
  • We personalize the conference to the interests of every student. We even take into account the students' ideas and feedbacks during the conference and implement them right on the spot!
  • Our classes are discussion-oriented and invite everyone to participate and share their ideas. We strive to move away from a lecture-style and rote memorization approach to education.
  • We foster an open, respectful and healthy environment for exchange among the teachers and students, allowing students to learn from teachers and teachers to learn just as much from students as well.
  • All participants in the conference are required to speak English for the entire duration of the conference at all times.
  • Room and board are provided for the duration of the conference. While it is not always possible, we work year-round to try to make the conference free of charge for all participants.

Mission Statement

The Harvard Undergraduate Taiwan Leadership Conference empowers individuals to transform their communities creatively, critically and collaboratively.

The mission of our conference seeks to meet students where they are at, and to work with them to develop their own unique personalities and passion through small classroom discussions, public speaking, group activities, extracurriculars, and interactions with teachers, volunteers and other students. HTLC strives to challenge its participants to cultivate strong independent leadership skills, work effectively as a team, and recognize the importance of social change.
