Dear Friends of HTLC,
Welcome to the HTLC community! The Harvard Taiwan Leadership Conference provides a weeklong, one-of-a-kind learning experience for students in Taiwan that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful and forward-thinking. Now, after over a decade of conferences, there are hundreds of HTLC alumni spearheading change around the globe. Through educational and interactive workshops and social activities and showcases, students will walk away with everlasting friendships, growth mindsets, and novel ideas to tackle difficult academic, social, and global issues.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, HTLC has proven its resilience—hosting its first ever virtual conference in 2021—and its importance ever more. We first met at the conference and were both inspired by the sheer passion, curiosity and ambition of the individuals surrounding us. After witnessing first-hand the power of this conference, we knew HTLC would become an integral part of our lives. With the winds of climate change, social justice, and economic turmoil blowing harder than ever, the mission and values of the conference are all the more meaningful.
As the HTLC directors this year, we’re privileged to be in a position to lead, encourage and nurture this blossoming community of leaders, creatives, and future change-makers. Each year, students learn and grow as much from the teaching team as the teaching team do from the students. This reciprocal learning--teachers alongside students thinking deeply about social and political issues in Taiwan and the world, posing questions to Taiwanese leaders and influencers, and engaging in intellectually stimulating conversations with our diverse student cohort--cements HTLC as a life-changing experience.
Ultimately, HTLC’s mission is a message of personal growth and collaboration. When August comes around, we hope to see you at the 2022 Harvard Taiwan Leadership Conference!
